Ive always been fascinated by simulacra. This is where naturally occurring objects, such as rocks have weathered and taken on a recognisable shape such as the outline of an animal or a face. In a religious context this can translate into the miraculous appearance of the image of the Virgin Mary or Jesus on a burnt potato chip or on the surface of a water damaged wall.
The building is made of wooden cinderblocks glued together and painted with exterior latex housepaint. It houses a dirt floor stained by blood dripping from a disembodied ear. The stain forms the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The ear is surrounded by an eerie blue glow and floats in front of a background of the night sky. The 3D viewer contains an image of a pile of rocks which could easily be mistaken for a skull.
