25 Miles as the Crow Flies is an autobiographical piece having to do with growing up on Long Island, a vast wasteland of strip malls and suburban sprawl. It deals with issues of alienation, Catholic guilt, redemption and life at sea level.
The structure is made of wood with 35mm slides of clouds mounted in the windows and illuminated from inside. A painting of a huge pasta shell on the beach adorns the facade. The blue staircase at the entrance is painted with a map of Long Island. The interior contains a stigmatic hand rising from the sea. Behind it is an image of the ocean with a large black rock jutting through the surface. The 3D viewer, mounted in the rear, contains an image of a lit stove. Floating above the blue flame is an old aluminum coffee pot.
