Why Pay Less? (For Seth Jaben) is a free-standing structure constructed almost entirely of wood. It sits on 4 spindly legs painted with black and white alternating stripes. It deals with the death from AIDS of a very close friend. This piece is a celebration of his life and the interior contains 2 disks, each divided into 12 sections with various images. One contains images of influences, interests and events in his life while the other, which rotates like a lazy susan, has images of some of his favorite foods.
In the left hand corner of the room stands a solitary white hand. On the right is a pedestal holding a sculpture of a grimacing mans head. This is a fukrimte punim (wrinkled face in Yiddish) and is a reference to Seths artwork. The 3D viewer contains an image of a cresting wave shot in the Carribean, one of Seths favorite places.
